Teaching Philosophy
I believe in creating an inclusive and stimulating environment where students can question what they have learned, challenge themselves to grow, and experience a brave space for meaningful conversation and learning. I also believe evidence-based learning helps students identify with lived experience that coincides with and supports what they are learning through class materials. This philosophy allows me to listen just as much as I talk, creating space for constructive feedback, building an environment of trust, and fostering a sense of community in the classroom.

Leadership & Workforce Development Initiatives
Ohio Department of Health was faced with the following challenge. High performing employees did not have a direct path to leadership because of minimum qualifications for leadership roles. As a result, employees were leaving the agency, leading to loss of institutional knowledge and expertise. Additionally, many leaders were approaching retirement age.
In response to this challenge I developed ODH-U
ODH-U is a MBA-inspired leadership development program designed to give employees the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to move into leadership positions. Since 2016, ODH-U has graduated over 100 employees.
Spin off programs like Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) Leads and Ascent at the Department of Public Safety have been implemented at other state agencies with my guidance and input.
In 2017 it was selected as Best Overall Submission for the inaugural PHWins Challenge sponsored by ASTHO and the de Beaumont Foundation.

Performance Management and Employee Development
Grow your most important resource. I believe every employee deserves to have a manager who understands their work, is able and willing to evaluate that work fairly and authentically, and provide actionable feedback for improvement. Whether performance evaluations are merit based or not, employees want to know that the work they are doing is impacting the organization positively and is aligned with the mission. Employees need to know the direction they are going. Leaders need to think strategically to provide this direction. Effective strategy helps leaders think critically about all phases of operations, ensuring mission-aligned work, data supported decision making, and optimized employee contributions.
Strategic Thinking
